We’ve all been there: staring at a massive goal and feeling frozen. Overwhelm creeps in, and suddenly you don’t know where to start. The truth is, overwhelm happens when we try to tackle the entire elephant at once instead of focusing on the first bite.
The key is to break the goal down into smaller, manageable steps. Start by writing your big goal at the top of a page. Then, ask yourself: What’s the very first thing I can do today to move forward? Maybe it’s sending one email, making a list, or researching a resource.
Once you complete that small step, celebrate it. Not only have you moved forward, but you’ve also taken away some of the fear that comes with a big, undefined task. Step by step, you’ll chip away at the overwhelm until your “impossible” goal feels achievable.
Remember: You don’t have to climb the entire mountain today. Just take the first step.
